Piano Lessons
Ho`ala mom Keiko Poarch -- an experienced piano instructor from Japan -- offers private lessons for Ho`als students in all grades. Currently lessons are offered on Wednesdays in 1/2 hour slots. Cost is $15/lesson, plus the cost of a book.
Chess Club
Ho`ala students in grades 2-12 are invited to join Ho`ala's chess club, which meets weekly on Thursday afternoons after school. Parent and student volunteers provide instruction, and players constantly challenge each other to improve their games.
Last year, two Ho`ala middle school students placed 3rd, as a team, in a state-wide chess competition. Plans are being made to train for future competitions again this year.
Taiko Drumming
Ryusei Taiko Drumming is a new enrichment program offered at Ho`ala School, led by instructor Andrea Iwamoto. Students in grades K-7 are invited to participate in this after school program on Mondays. Cost of the program is $6/class, payable in 6-week sessions.
Enrollment is limited to those who enrolled from the start of the year, as future courses build on prior knowledge.
