S.O.E.S.T.
The University of Hawaii at Manoa put on it's 6th SOEST Open House on April 19- 20, 2002. The high school went for our project peiriod. At the S.O.E.S.T. Open House, we looked at the different marine related booths. Some of the different booths that we looked at were:
- Hawaii Wave Climatology: Here we learned about how waves come to the islands and the techneques used in surf forcasting.
- HURL higlights: Here we learned all about the Hawaii Underwater Research Labratories. This program is run by the University of Hawaii.
- Oceanography: Here we learned what U.H. had to offer in the Marine biology and Oceanography programs.
- Precious Corals of Hawaii: Here we learned about different corals and where in Hawaii's coral reefs they are found.
- Deep- Sea Benthic Critters: Here we learned about some of the deep- sea organisms such as the Viper Fish.
- Plankton collection and identification: Here we learned about how scientists collect plankton from a boat and the identification process.
